Sol de Mayo was born from a lifelong connection to knitwear, natural fibres and handmade objects.

Growing up in Argentina within an Italian family, Monica Pigliacampo learned to knit as a child beside her mother, making long scarves and discovering early on the quiet pleasure of working with yarn, texture and colour. That relationship with knitwear never left her.

She later studied Arts and Textile Design at the University of Mar del Plata before continuing her training in knitwear technology in Barcelona and earning a Master’s degree in Fashion and Textile Design in England. After working in the fashion industry in Spain, including with the Inditex group, she eventually settled in France, where Sol de Mayo was founded in 2013.

The birth of her daughter became another turning point. Searching for beautiful knitted pieces made from natural fibres, Monica became increasingly aware of how many products — even from well-known brands — relied heavily on synthetic materials and short-lived quality. She wanted to create something different: pieces made slowly, with care, texture and lasting comfort.

Today, Sol de Mayo brings together handmade lighting crafted in France, alpaca soft toys hand-knitted in Bolivia by women artisans, and knitted essentials created from natural fibres. Rooted in craftsmanship and simplicity, the brand reflects a quiet approach to design — one that values warmth, tactile beauty and objects made to live gently within everyday life.

The name Sol de Mayo, inspired by the Argentine “Sun of May,” carries both memory and light: a connection to Monica’s origins and to the warmth she wished to bring into her life in France.
